Hello my friends, long time no talk. I've been out and about on the road with Braille and Ohmega Watts, then in Nashville at the GMAs and then to Vegas with wifey gambling at Slots Of Fun and watching Entourage till 4am. I'm back home at work again. I just did a session for the new Grouch and Eligh record yesterday. It was a blast! The song will have The Gift Of Gab and I as special guest...wait till you hear it! Eligh and I were at Grouch's house just for a couple of hours but we killed it. I love doing music, its my favorite part in all of this world of music biz....brings me back to Earth. I'll be back on the road, doing spot dates on the West Coast again in May so come on out and have your throat choked with goodness! Yes!!!!

1/19/2008

Happy New Year my family around the globe. I hope the holidays were kind to you and that you survived. I'm very excited about 2008. I think we always get excited about a new year. Who gets depressed about a new year. That would be cool. I should get depressed about 2008. That would be fresh. I could lead a nation of spoiled brats to glory. Lead them like rats.

I've been reading again. Reading Fitzgerald's "Six Tales Of The Jazz Age" and pretty much being floored by every other sentence. He died at 44. He lived in Paris with Zelda, his wife. He was an Army man. He had a great head of hair and was born in the Mid-West. I trust dudes like him. Dylan's from the Mid-West. Prince as well. Farmer boys and blue collar hearts. I don't trust or listen to the Coasts, East or West. They are very emotional and change there opinions like coats. They are fashion forward pigs, who would eat there young if it it paid right. Trust me. I live in L.A. and am surrounded by the new hippies (scenesters). And.....I change my opinions like a motherfreaker.

2007 was the hardest year of my life. I'd hate to repeat it. So here's to new things, new suns and dawns. To crisp and lonely nights. To sly smiles and inside jokes. To love. I pray and hope that this year would be one to break mens hearts. To help us realize the heaven we already have.

Here's to us, this sliver of a generation. Lets make this year the best one we've lived. Toast.

From the Diary of Mr. Pigeon John: July 18

"Today is a busy one, as usual. But I don't want to get caught up in the hustle of life, chasing dreams and goals. I want to stand still and know the dream is here all ready. Who do I think I am? Rev Run or something? The sky is blue and I'm about to eat breakfast with Harmony. My nephew, Chris is visiting us for a couple of weeks and that's always fresh.

I'm really looking forward to playing The Troubadour this Friday! It's my very first time headlining their. Plus, I'll be rocking with Chief Xcel of Blackalicious, Jupiter Rising and my new homeboys Sparrow Love Crew....and I'm gonna have a special guest come through too.....LA at its finest. Well....after waiting and chilling and listening to the birds.... its finally off to the races."

From the Diary of Mr. Pigeon John: July 14

"Lying on an air mattress at my homey Cheap Cologne's house in Minneapolis. Thought I'd reach out a little. We are preparing to go to Sonshine Festival in Willmar, MN in about 5 hours to rock right after RedCloud and DJ Wise and right before John Reuben. I haven't seen Reuben in awhile so I'm excited. We always have a laugh, deep rich ones. Cheap and I practiced and work on the show for a couple of hours and now we're bout to hit the sack.

This day was a good red travel day. Flying from Burbank to Minnie was normal. I read pages from The Message Bible and Charles Swindoll's "David - A Man of Passion and Destiny", drank a tremendous amount of coffee, tried to look relaxed while standing in line at the airport, but felt like I was posing for a shoot or something (I'm so vain and I feel like I can't shake it....I feel very stupid sometimes)

I also read about Bob Dylan in an old "Q" mag from the UK....he was and is a very focused and true artist. And he wore very expensive and desirable clothes. Its hard not to want to be like him. I don't know one person that has sat with his work and not been heavily influenced. "I wish it was the 60's, I wish we could be happy" - Radiohead said it best. I think our generation is on to something as well, we just don't have the benefit of being the first group of people to experience music culture through television.

That's why The Beatles and Elvis and everything was so big...so...John Wayne. If the The Beatles came out now then be Jellyfish. Well I'm gonna night night.....ill write to you (me) soon."

Blog: Chillin - 6/18/2007
I'm home today, in Northridge, CA. Chilling with Harmony and taking in the sunshine. Being back from the road has been like medicine for me.

I'm hard at work on finishing my upcoming mixtape "Pigeon John Featuring Pigeon John 2" which will be out in August! It will feature rare and very exclusive gems I've been a part of from 2003-till now! Blackalicious, Del The Funkee Homospien, L.A. Symphony, Opio, Brainwash Projects and maybe more guest appearances as well.....get ready for that one.

bTwice and I are also hammering out the rest on our Brainwash Projects 2nd project. We're half way done and are very excited about how its coming out. Our first record (my first ever release) came out in the Fall of 1998 on Matt Wignall's Jackson/Rubio label. So this will be a record 10 years in the making! Emotion, truth, despair and hope are all over it and so far we have new comer Shake De Ville on the record. We hope you'll like it. It comes out soon.

That's it for now, signing off from So Cal, Pigeon Juan! Thanks for your support, prayers and love!!!! Peace!

Blog: Paid Dues Festival, San Bernadino, CA - 3/24/2007
Man oh man oh man was this a beautiful day. The 2nd annual Paid Dues Fest held by Guerrila Union and MURS 3:16 was a full on shut down work of art. Over 5,000 people showed up from around the world to celebrate the top shelf underground Hip Hop's finest and I was delighted to be apart of the lineup.

I got to see Hanger 18, Evidence w/ The Alchemist, Devin The Dude (who I shared green rooms with), Brother Ali, Sage Francis, Jean Grae, Blackalicious (who I did "Side To Side" with in front of 5 thousands waving hands!) and $FELT$ (MURS, Slug and Ant). I was a little bummed not perfroming with my new friends Macromantics and DJ Amy in New York City....but I had to be apart of this history.

Big ups to MURS and Guerrila Union for having me and much love to all the old and new friends I got to meet...and last BUT NOT least thanks to all 5000 head coming and putting this movement on the map.....forget the late blomers....

Blog: Boston - 3/23/2007
Performed in Boston, Ma at the Paradise Lounge tonight. The little room, next to the big room. I'd been here before as an opening act maybe 3-4 times now so tonight was special to me to headline in the mighty Boston. I did 4 interviews and drove 10 hours so I was a little exhausted, but when I saw and met my people I was revived....a little. It was a hip hopped out night for sure and not in a refreshing way.

We had 3 opeing acts before Macromatics hit the stage...so the crowd, I felt got worn out with all the dated and pre-programmed hip hop format.....at least I did. But all and all the Boston peoples were way cool and fun. They informed me that the response I was given (I had thought I didn't blow it up enough) was a very great one indeed and that Bostonians are more reserved. That made me feel better....big ups lizards!

Blog: 2/28/2007

Hello my family of terrible wherewolves. I just got back from New York, New York- rocking with the legendary SlickRick at The Knitting Factory! It was amazing to say the least. I sat backstage with my mouth open and smiling for the entire set and it was so dope to see him do the old and new songs....he hasn't dropped anything since 2000. It was like watching my father kill it and showing us how to do the same. And the show was tight, he didn't break a sweat and the Andy Dietch Project was backing him up.

Sarah, my publicist, took me and wife around town throught out the weekend. We got to eat at The House in Gramercy Park right before going to The Plug Awards at The Irving Plaza. I was nominated as The Best Hip Hop Album of 2006 but lost to Spank Rock (congrats, by the way) ....Comedian David Cross hosted the show with performances by Deerhoof, El-P, Silverspun Pickups and Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks....it was typical. The New York taste makers and are very dull bunch, to be honest.

I'm back home, in Northridge, under the yellow sun and I'm happy.

Check out this review of the NYC Show

Blog: 30,000 feet up..............? - 1/29/2007
I'm on a Delta 747 heading to Jackonsonville, FL. The plane is cold and half empty. I'm going to the the good ol' South to be in a music video with Gotee Records artist GRITS - for the song I'm on called "Open Bar". Out there for two days, it should fun for sure. Be on the look out for it in Spring. I just finished an amazing tour with the amazing band Subtle (featuring Dose One and Jel of Anitcon). We went up and down the West Coast and killed people. It all started in Pomona, CA at The Glass House then landed in Portland, OR's Doug Fur (the best place to play in the city, hands down). My personal favorite place was a sold out show in Victoria, BC. It was clear and brisk and people looked like album covers. The day after the dope show we ate at this little veagan place that our 2 friends worked at: Lady Villiany and Megan. We slung food, stared at kids and walked on hard, old concrete. It was.....blistering. See you soon, Subtle (oh yeah! They are opening for TV On The Radio soon!....freaking punks!) and friends......
love, Pigeon John..

Blog: Tahoe - 12/02/2006
Here in South Lake Tahoe, NV. The cold is bitter and bright. We are performing at the casino Mont Blu with THE Mixmaster Mike. I just met him for the 2nd time and we (RedCloud and DJ Wise) are really excited about rocking before him. He is a legend and am so glad he's from the West Coast! The tour has been pretty cool so far. Its always a blast hanging with my brothers and seeing America. Eating pancakes, drinking coffee and laughing into the nite like cackling dogs. I love it.

Blog: Home Again - 11/29/2006
I'm back home. Northridge, CA. A cold West Coast suburb of Los Angeles. People live here. Grow kids here. Buy and sale huge brick homes, flip them like fingers here. Me and wife aren't from here. She's from Venice and I'm from the South Bay (Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena etc) and Downtown (6th and Alvarado). We do eat sushi here though. Watch movies and act like yuppies. We have 2 cats. Sinatra and Uma. Son and mom. We are going to buy our tall Christmas tree today. They get taller every year. It takes 5 hours to decorate that thing. That green visitor fills our little house with foresty smells. I like it. It lumes at night when all the lights are off. Startles me when I night-stubble toward the bathroom. I think its a burgular. We are going to get coffee and begin are day here...in Northridge, California.

Blog: Wizard Of Oz - 11/20/2006
I'm sitting at my desk in my room at The Establishment, one of Sydney's top hotels, and i feel like a lonely and much more broke Diddy. Room 58. The bathroom looks like and very young Diana Ross just left it. It's straight, clean, bleak and very rich. The shower has a floor to ceiling window that overlooks downtown 9-to-5ers walking to their little lunch breaks. I want to take a shower in front of them, just to let them know there is another way out....for now. I can picture it, Sam an attorney at break, eating his Subway chicken sandwich when his happens to look up to the 5th floor of a local hotel only to see a brown naked man, soapy and without care, waving at him in slow motion, eyes ablaze. Would he laugh it off? Would he remember what it was like to be a 9 year old? Would he quit his job and take his wife on a month vacation in Brazil? I don't know but I think so.

This is only the second day on the Pigeon John/Lyrics Born Australian Tour and its begun with bangs and flashes. Brisbane was a lovely beach town that held pretty girls and a little too handsome guys....too finished. But i had a blast and watched Jackass 2, alone and happy with my Vans, black suede and high top, kicked up in front of me, dangling. I was young and roaming. This life on the road and away from my wife, family and friends is a drastic one...a carnival that never quite ends...and you are always alone. Which usually ends in drinking and fake laughing with the people you are currently touring with. My fellow clowns and magicians from all over the world. I can go on but i don't want to bore you. Your are too special for that. So until that fateful day when my circus pulls into your own town, raggedy and tilted, be aware, be afraid, and be in love.

Yours Truly,
Pigeon John
